Barrow AFC finally land defender O'Donnell

THE on-off transfer saga involving Danny O'Donnell has ended after the defender put pen to paper on an 16-month contract with Barrow AFC.

The 26-year-old has joined on a free transfer after two years at Stockport County.

O'Donnell's original move to Holker Street was stopped 'as he was literally signing the last piece of paper', the club say, when the Football Conference imposed a registration embargo January 4, because Barrow had an outstanding PAYE payment.

With the embargo lifted five days later, O'Donnell was again due to sign but when Stockport sacked Manager, Jim Gannon, last week, he decided to remain at Edgeley Park and fight for his place.

He signed the paperwork at Edgeley Park on Tuesday lunchtime after satisfying Barrow Physio, Sean Riley, who gave the go ahead on Medical grounds.

O'Donnell will wear the number 18 shirt, which had already been printed in readiness for his original proposed debut at Kidderminster.

The commanding central defender will have to wait at least a week for his debut though, as he is cup-tied to Stockport and therefore ineligible to play for Barrow in this season's FA Trophy competition.

Have your say

Cheers RAM,your posts are excellent as are those of Rodger the Lodger, george angry bob, in fact most are positive and encouraging, so we only have couple of paranoid half wits who think they run AFC.To be honest,I do think they could run AFC....rght into the ground,so thank goodness for DB AFC,DB AFC,DB AFC,DB AFC,
