BAE hands out nearly £660,000 in 2012 bonuses

BARROW shipyard workers are set to bag a share of nearly £660,000 in bonuses.

Have your say

Come now £150 is not a lot of money. I wonder wahy there has been such a lot of vitriol from your contributors over this issue. I assume that most of the BAE people used this for shopping or a small luxury.
Jealousy over someone getting £150 is unbecoming.

Mike,
are you having a laugh ? Could you Please tell the readers the last contract delivered to time & cost by BAE ? I think you will struggle finding one over your 30 years of being there! Ever wondered why they need contractors ...??

Most of the real work is done by contractors who never receive a penny in bonuses, never mind sickness and holiday pay.

But are paid a fortune in comparison.
Also my experience of contractors is that they draw jobs out. It's a natural thing, if you finish the job on time and to schedule you'll be out of a job. I don't actually blame you for slowing the job up and muddying the waters of the job. It's the only way you can keep the job.
I do look at BAE however and think why don't you employ locals who have more integrity and a sense of pride when it comes to building submarines? I've been in the yard over 30 years now and can see the disease that is contractors. Please do to try and convince me different unless you have been there longer and can sincerely show you are an honest worker. The ones I've worked for lately aren't that. They are self only and ought to be deeply ashamed of their antics.

I think it would be much better if BAE sorted their pay structure out instead of paying bonuses. They pay locals a lot less than the people they are bringing in from away and before anyone says they are contractors they are not. I know a few lads who work in teams where there is a struggle to get the right people. BAE is paying a lot more for new recruits in this area than they pay the lads that have been doing the job for years. The comical thing is that the lads who have been there for years end up having to teach the new recruits the job even though they are paid much less than them. Start paying the lads who can do the job properly BAE.

Why do the Evening Mail feel the need to disclose what people are being paid, regardless as to whether it is a bonus or not. I find it quite disgusting that you feel the need to publish this for everyone to read, as you don't publish bonuses by any other companies or your own for that matter.

Hold off on with the abuse aimed generally at BAE workers! I am extremely proud to work there and was very happy to receive the bonus as it was very unexpected. I am a hardworking person and grateful that I have a job. To spout off about you should be glad to have a job...well yes I am and ive also spent 18 months on the dole so know how hard it is. If a company is willing to give their workforce a bonus how it that the fault of the workers??? My mam works in the NHS and yes they do deserve more money BUT you cant moan about not having xmas off, if you want a job where you know you dont get set holidays then surely you dont have grounds to complain!

If you look at any large company you will always get those who do very little for their money and our bonus is very little in comparison to other companies and some within the public sector!
