A VILE Stella-supping racist who blamed an innocent train passenger for a recent terrorist attack and said he felt "unsafe" sitting near her has been sentenced.

Shahina Patel began filming the incident on her mobile phone and posted it online after receiving racist abuse from a man, later identified as David Blagburn from Walney, on a train between Lancaster and Manchester.

As the train approaches Preston, Miss Patel is heard challenging 47-year-old Blagburn about his behaviour and told him she was offended and felt threatened by his language and remarks.

At this point Blagburn became more abusive and blamed Miss Patel for the Manchester terror attack the month before, in which 22 people lost their lives when an Islamic extremist blew himself up at a pop concert.

He then said about Miss Patel: "It was her family who made this happen.”

She replied: “Do you know who my family are? You don’t know anything about me.”

Blagburn also said Shahina needed to “be aware” of how people would treat her “because of what you did” and said "people wouldn't feel safe" with her on the train.

Blagburn eventually left the carriage after a member of the public intervened while his victim was left sobbing. On reaching Manchester Piccadilly station she immediately reported the incident to British Transport Police.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court last week, Blagburn, of Vicarage Mount on Walney, was fined £535 and given a 12-month community order after he pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment.

In a statement British Transport Police (BTP) said: "David Blagburn’s torrent of vile racist abuse left his victim in tears. She bravely filmed the horrendous incident and reported it to us. Now Blagburn has been landed with a £535 fine."

BTP PC Adam Heslop, who arrested Blagburn, added: "Blagburn’s behaviour was offensive and repellent to any right thinking member of society. This kind of abuse is not acceptable and will never be tolerated."
