A BEAUTIFUL modern house in a quiet wide-sweeping street immediately caught the attention of Natalie and Stuart Porter. As they told SUSAN GOODSON it has proved to be a wonderful family home not just for the couple but their young son

NATALIE and Stuart Porter were so taken with the stylish house in a superb residential area that after leaving their families in Askam to move to Dalton, it was an easy decision to up sticks and move again.

The house, 65 Glenridding Drive, Barrow, is a link detached home in an ever popular residential location with a garden front, drive, garage, an entrance hall, lounge diner, kitchen and to the first floor three bedrooms and a family bathroom.

There are plenty of green spaces and areas for children to play and the road is lined with well-kept homes and gardens.

Outside to the back is a safe and pleasant lawned garden with mature borders. Describing what first attracted them to their home, the couple said: “We always knew it was a really nice area of Barrow.

“We are near Holker Old Boys, the road is a cul-de-sac and there is green everywhere. There are regular buses, good schools handy and shops just around the corner.

“Hardly anyone parks on the road because they have drives and garages.

“We had looked at a lot of houses, but when we saw this one that was it.

“The house itself has such a nice style starting with how it looks from the outside with the Georgian-style windows."

As taken with their new home as they were, Natalie and Stuart lavished a lot of care and attention on it once they made it their own.

Natalie said: “We painted all the walls and fitted and painted all new skirting boards throughout the house, replaced the carpets and put down a beautiful natural slate floor in the bathroom.

“We have done almost everything.”

The couple also added the porch on to the house to extend the hallway, which also has under stairs storage cupboard, to make plenty of space for their big pram.

They added: “When we first bought the house the garden was a little bit overgrown and it had borders all the way round so we took some of them out to make it a bit bigger and took some of the trees down.”

There is also a seating area at the back which gets all-day sun.

The lounge is a beautiful, light room with a big Georgian-style bay windows overlooking the front grass area as the house is set back off the road.

The room is so big it means they have been able to put in a big dining table at the back and double glazed double doors lead out to the back garden which is safely locked away from the front of the house.

The separate kitchen has white front wall and base cupboards, working surfaces, tiled surrounds and a double-glazed door to the garden.

With its big windows and light colours, the house gets plenty of natural light and despite its big rooms has a proper family home feel. Up the stairs to the first floor there are three bedrooms and the family bathroom with a bath and electric shower.

Natalie added: “The house is easy to look after which is important to us because we both work full time and have our son Roman, who is only two.

“We love this house and it has been a really hard decision to make to sell it, but we need to move closer to family who help look after Roman.

“The travelling is just too much when we are both working full time.

“If we could we would take the house with us because we love it so much and we have loved living in this area, especially as our neighbours are so good and helpful.
