THREE days of live music, DJ sets, and poetry take place at the Hope and Anchor in Ulverston this weekend under the We Shall Overcome banner.

The pub in Daltongate is also staging its first-ever beer festival alongside the nationwide anti-austerity event.

More than 200 gigs are taking place over this weekend across the UK, as well as in Australia, Canada and Ireland.

We Shall Overcome is a community effort, led by musicians and music promoters who want to do something practical to help people who are hit by poverty and homelessness.

Several thousand musicians will perform as audiences are encouraged to bring food for foodbanks or make donations to local homelessness charities or other causes, on entry.

The line-up for the three days of entertainment in Ulverston has now been finalised, getting under way on Friday with appearances from young indie rock band Blue Shift and classic rock throwbacks Eaten By Crocodiles, from 8pm.

Saturday sees the biggest bill of live music, with well-known Midlands folk veterans Red Shoes returning to town for a headline set, from 9.15pm. Before that, during the day there are appearances from John Bailey, Jo Clayton Brown, Me and Our Reg, Jamie Bosanko, and John Gallacher - who will also play a separate set alongside Rita Baugh under the moniker Gallacher/Rita Blue - with The Degenerate Art Show providing a full-band set, and the Octopus Collective musicians also performing.

Rounding out the weekend on Sunday will be a handful of folk acts, poetry readings, DJ sets and the regular Bring Your Own Vinyl night.

The beer festival sees the pub bring in 14 award-winning guest ales, lagers and ciders to make it the busiest weekend of events in the pub's recent history.
