UNRIVALLED views and a wonderful light, airy house won over Jill and Paul Adams after leaving Surrey for work. As they told SUSAN GOODSON they have never regretted it and their home will be virtually impossible to replace

THE Adams are the first and only family to have lived in the home they moved into 13 years ago.

It was being built when they first viewed it and so they had a say in the fixtures and fittings.

Although already convinced it was a great buy, during their time in the house they have been stunned by its flexibility and how easy it has adapted to a growing family.

Then they extended it to give it even more scope.

The house - 99 Lowther Road, Millom - is a detached home in a quiet cul-de-sac. To the front is a drive for off-road parking and an attached garage. Inside an entrance hall leads to the garage, kitchen, lounge ground floor cloaks with WC and the stairs.

The first and second reception rooms are joined by French doors. The second reception room is an ideal family/games room. A door to the side leads to reception room three/study/bedroom six.

A second hall leads to the utility/kitchenette.

The downstairs study is currently a music room but could easily be a bedroom as it has an en-suite. The second hall connects the study/bedroom six to the family room and utility room.

Stairs lead to the spacious landing on the first floor and gives access to the part-boarded loft. Here is the master bedroom with balcony access and four further double bedrooms. There is an en-suite bathroom also with a Jack and Jill doors so it can be entered from the master bedroom and the landing.

There is also a family bathroom. To the back of the property is a balcony with stunning views, an impressive back garden with lawn, patio space and a lower decked area.

When Jill talks about her family home it is obvious just how much it means to her.

She said: “It is so bright and airy and the views are unrivalled.

“You can see Coniston Old Man, Black Combe and right round to the estuary.

“We had one room as the games room but then as the children grew it became the ‘adults room’ so they couldn’t leave their things lying around in it.

“We have a big family room at the back where we do things together and now what was the adults’ room is for anyone who wants to sit somewhere quiet or sit without the television.

“Downstairs what is now the music room could actually be a bedroom or even a separate flat because it has its own three-piece en-suite shower room.

“It has also come in handy when former work colleagues have come to stay because they can have their own space and bathroom which is handy with three children in the house.”

Eight years ago Jill and Paul decided to extend the house to further fit their family needs.

When the couple bought the house there was just Jill’s son Daniel Lowe, now 26 and working away. But then along came Poppy, now 10, Daisy eight and Holly three. The extension added on two bedrooms, a much bigger utility room, the family room, the extra room with its own en suite and the balcony. The family can get on to the balcony from the first, second and third bedrooms and it even has a seating area. It also means the children can play in the garden and the adults can keep an eye on them.

Jill said: “We absolutely love the garden. The children have a club house, there is a trampoline and decking.

“Even if the weather isn’t great it means the children still get out and about and so do we.

“The garden backs on to Church Walk so we can nip into town and at times when it has snowed we have sledged to town done our shopping and then used one sledge for shopping and a second has the kids on it.”

During their time in the house, especially after the extension, we updated the decorating in the rooms and we have continued to remain on top of it.

“A year ago I got my dream kitchen which I absolutely love and am so sad to leave.

“We are moving for work to cut down the travel time and want to make the move when the time is right for the children at school.”

The house - 99 Lowther Road, Millom - is on the market with Corrie and Co Estate Agent for £319,950. For further details or to arrange a viewing please call the agent on 01229 355333 or visit the Millom office at 31 Lapstone Road.
