TRACY and Mike Crowe didn’t need to formally view the house they wanted to buy. As they told SUSAN GOODSON, they already knew it very well as it had been in their family for years

In the 13 years they have lived in it they have added two children, Kayleigh and Alex, to their family. To this day it is a much-loved family home and this is reflected in every area of the house.

The house - 62 Chatsworth Street, Barrow - is a mid terraced house with a forecourt with wall and gate and moving inside there are, over three floors, an entrance vestibule and hall, two reception rooms, a modern fitted kitchen, to the first floor two bedrooms and a bathroom and to the second a third bedroom.

Outside to the back of the house is a sunny back yard with a latch gate to the back street.

While for many people having children can lead to their home’s needs taking second place to the responsibilities that come from looking after youngsters, in the case of the Crowes this has definitely not happened.

Tracy explained: “One of the best things we did in the house, especially with two children, was put a oak effect laminate floor down, including in the dining area so we could all eat there.

“We also removed the glass partition doors between the two reception rooms making them completely open plan.

“Just one of the things I love about this house is that all the rooms have big windows so it gets plenty of light even in winter.

“Because we are south facing the sun comes up in the back yard in the morning and then moves around the house and in the evening the front lounge is lovely and sunny.

“While the front reception room has an open coals living flame gas fire in the second room we had a wall-hung living flame effect electric fire with remote control installed.

“We had central heating put in and in January 2015 we got a new boiler which we have had serviced this year.

“We were not happy with our first new kitchen so installed another this year and the worktops were only finished in July.

“With the birth of our second child we converted the loft into a bedroom and have installed fire-proof doors throughout, as well as smoke alarms. “We also have a new bathroom.”

The two reception rooms have good ceiling height and original cornice decoration.

Both the master double bedroom and the third second-floor bedroom have wonderful views of Black Combe. Outside the family have made good use of their sunny back yard.

Tracy said: “There were outbuildings so we removed them and put a decking area in.

“We have spent a lot of time out there and the children when they were growing up could ride their bikes out of the yard into the back street because it is so safe.”

The location of the house has proved just perfect and Tracy has been able to drop off the children at nursery and then school on her walk to work.

As Mike works in BAE he rides his bike there. Supermarkets, Matalan and Home Bargains are all on their doorstep.

Talking about their home, Tracy felt quite emotional, but they know it is time to move on and a house with a second bathroom would come in handy.

As Mike grew up in the house next door to their home and they are both Barrow born and bred, they probably won’t be moving too far.
