I NOTE with interest Councillor Ann Thurlow's comments regarding Charnley's Home and Garden centre, and its attendant traffic problems, she said "There is less space for parked cars but the business has expanded so that creates a problem."

So how does the same criteria apply to the town's schools I wonder? The problems on Ulverston Road near the garden centre almost pales into insignificance compared to the mayhem in the town centre at rush hour.

Any day Monday to Friday and particularly 3.30pm to 4pm the baths' car park is full with parents on the school pick-up.

The Co-op car park is often full. Cars are double parked in Myrtle Terrace and sometimes on Romney Park and most of Chapel Street.

The buses cannot easily turn into or out of Market Street at any of its junctions and by the same virtue nor can the fire engines.

I think it's safe to say the Market Street layout is no longer fit for purpose, and the "school run" parking is an accident waiting to happen. It's a pity the councillors do not pay the same attention to the town centre problems before we have another fatality.
