I wrote to you in October in response to Jason and Craig McCullough rescuing a swan trapped in fishing wire on Ormsgill Reservoir, I mentioned in the letter about the RSPCA removing a fishing hook from the beak of a swan.

Since November I have removed fishing line attached to swans on four different occasions. On one occasion the poor creature was nearly strangled because he had the fishing line wrapped around his neck and tangled up in his wing, so every time he moved he was strangling himself! Luckily I was able to get hold of the swan and I managed to untangle him.

Today I went my usual walk and there was a swan with fishing wire in her mouth and wrapped around her beak so she couldn't eat, dangling from the wire was a piece of wood with more fishing wire wrapped around it and from the wood was more fishing wire (see picture). Fortunately I was able to coax her from the water and managed, with a struggle to remove the fishing wire.

I am appalled that this is still a regular occurrence. That would have been four unnecessary times that the overworked RSPCA would have been called out if I hadn't managed to free these poor creatures, or worse they wouldn't have survived.

Please if you insist on fishing on Ormsgill Reservoir, be responsible and think about the damage you could cause to the wildlife by being careless, thank you.
