This week is Breakfast Week . A national campaign to get more people thinking about what they eat first thing in the morning, where it comes from and how it affects our bodies.

If you are one of those people who just downs a cup of black coffee each morning then this could be your week to try something a little more fulfilling.

It has always been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and there is scientific proof that this is totally true! Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast every day are more likely to concentrate at school and another has shown that breakfast is integral to maintain a healthy body weight.

Unless you are a serious morning person, up at 5.30am for marathon training, then mornings can be a little fuzzy and we need time to wake up and get ready for the day. Well, your digestive system feels the same! It needs waking up too and by eating a good breakfast you initiate thermogenesis, the digestive process which kick starts your metabolism for the day.

Also, if you skip breakfast you are likely to feel hungrier at lunch time and will be more prone to over indulgence. If you want to keep it healthy then these are a few of my favourite breakfast dishes to treat yourself to this week:

Avo Toast - This is a firm favourite with food bloggers everywhere nowadays. Avocados are the front runners of the superfood world and no wonder as it is one of the most nutritious sources of healthy fats in the world.  Avo Toast

Honey Soaked Oats -  One of my favourite recipes from celebrity health chefs Deliciously Ella. Oats are an excellent source of fibre and proven to significantly lower cholesterol.  Honey soaked oats

Poached Eggs and Spinach - for a total protein hit that's popular with fans of the paleo diet this is a great one. This will fill you with energy and strength all morning, just look at Popeye.  Poached eggs and spinach

Mexican Chorizo and Scrambled Eggs - the best weekend treat! This is also paleo friendly and mixes flavours you might never have thought about.  Mexican chorizo and scrambled eggs

TOP TIP: If you're a bread, but hate the bloated feeling you get after too much bread then try sourdough. Believe the hype, it's a white bread that really doesn't leave you feeling bloated! Sourdough takes a lot longer to bake but the combination of fermentation, wild yeast and slower rising time makes it far easier for our body to digest.
