Parents fork out an average of £6,000 on school uniform per child over the course of their school years - or almost £500 a year - according to new research.

The eye-watering stats, based on a recent poll by supermarket Sainsbury's , also reveals that children will work through a whopping 480 items of uniform clothing throughout their schooling.

Are the prices of school uniforms too high? Do parents pay too much for their child's school uniform?
