ROADS are in a worse state than they were 10 years ago, according to two in three AA members.
In the North West, 64 per cent of voters thought the roads were worse than 10 years ago, 14 per cent thought they were better, and 22 per cent thought they were unchanged.
As many as 40 per cent of those surveyed nationally reckoned road surfaces were much worse, the AA/Populus poll revealed.
Based on responses from 17,500 motorists, the survey showed that those polled thought roads in Yorkshire and Humberside had deteriorated the most.
AA president Edmund King said: “Britain’s motorists are paying record levels of taxation and yet receive poor value for money. These findings come as a stark reminder that, despite some extra Government funding for road maintenance at the start of the decade, the cash is nowhere enough for drivers to see real improvement in road condition.”
I come back to Barrow several times a year to visit relatives and it seems that every time i come back i have to re-plan my journey around because the flamming council keep changing the road systems i agree with what tony says about it having more lights than Blackpool. On my recent visit i experienced the new road system on walney road it's a joke, i had to visit the owl & puusycat lidl and asda and instead of popping in each one on the way past OH NO! i had to go round the back of hollywood park after visiting each place. Also i was in Barrow when they had an open day at the bus garage and it took me 15 minutes to cross the road with three small children because there's nothing at that end all the lights are at the other end.

As an exiled Barrovian living in the South of England I come back to Barrow several times a year (I have a caravan on the Coast Road). I used to be a tv engineer in Barrow and knew the towns roads like the back of my hand. Not these days,I get lost and end up going round in circles.
