Help Cumbrian broadband firm build on success
Last updated at 15:41, Friday, 15 June 2012
Cumbrians are being urged to back the county’s contender in a business competition.
Carlisle broadband supplier Solway Communications was the winner in the Local Business Accelerators scheme promoted through The Cumberland News.
The Thurstonfield firm is in the national finals of the competition, where TV star Deborah Meaden, of Dragons’ Den fame, will choose an overall winner.
Solway Communications was named as one of three winners of the Local Business Accelerators scheme in January, alongside Carlisle baby shop Pixie and Bob’s and Eden Valley box-maker Cumbria Box.
The trio won three months of free advertising in The Cumberland News, mentoring from three of the county’s best-known business people and expert financial advice from Armstrong Watson accountants.
Now Solway Communications is a contender in The People’s Choice section of the awards.
Voting started this week. People can view a video on why Solway is a worthy winner below. Votes can be cast at www.newspapersoc.org.uk/local-business-accelerators-the-peoples-choice. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday, June 24.

The winner will be announced at the finals on Thursday, June 28.
The regional winners were chosen by a panel including Helen Loveless, business editor of the Mail on Sunday; Stephen Welton, chief executive of the Business Growth Fund and Lynne Anderson, of the Newspaper Society.
Solway Communications offers super-fast, reliable, wireless internet services. It was launched by Nicholas Kittoe and Antony Cross.
