VANDALS have left a group of under-fives feeling glum after they damaged their play equipment.

Intruders damaged an outdoor play house at Walney Central Nursery sometime during the half-term holiday.

Staff returned to the nursery, in Central Drive, on Monday to find the lock of the wooden play house broken and the door damaged.

They also discovered sand pit play tools had been thrown out on to the floor. An ornamental sphere, one of a pair, was missing, and the matching sphere was moved into the playground.

The damaged play house now has to be repaired before the children can play there again.

Sheena Browne, the manager of Walney Central Nursery, said: “We have a beautiful play house in our outdoor secure area for the children and vandals have wrecked the lock and damaged the door.

“It’s the children they have spoilt it for – they are spoiling the children’s experience.”

Mrs Browne said the staff also found takeaway litter in the outdoor seating area and believe the vandals may have had a snack while in the play area.

She said: “They have even had the cheek to eat something here. We assume it was the same people. We assume they are from Walney, they may even have attended the nursery.

“It’s a shame they have spoilt it for young children.”

The damage could have happened between October 26 and November 5. Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area is asked to call Barrow Police on 101.

I think that as the manager sheena browne should be ashamed of herself, accusing people from walney, worse still children that "may" of attended the nursery could have done this damage! I as a parent myself have been very offended by these comments. Has ms Browne not brought her children up to respect other peoples belongings that she is quick to judge others by her own standards. This vandalism is definitely not acceptable, but people should not presume that it has been caused by ones that live in the area.
