TRANSPORT enthusiasts from Barrow, Millom, Carnforth and Morecambe took part in a guided tour behind the scenes at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
It had been arranged by the Furness, Lakes and Lune branch of the Railway Correspondence and Travel Society and was led by Peter Van Zeller.
There was a visit to the signal box, museum, engine shed and the workshop, where restoration and repair way was being carried out on locomotives such as the diesel-powered Douglas Ferreira.
A description was given on the long-term restoration work which had been required on the 1923-built River Esk and the Whillan Beck — rescued from Spain and now in daily use.
