DANCE groups have been a key part of South Cumbria's major public carnivals for decades and also provide entertainment in spectacular stage shows.

Today's sample of pictures from The Mail's archive show some of the many events undertaken by dance groups.

You can never be too young to start, so in January 1995 Amanda's School of Dancing put on a first show featuring its three-year-old dancers at Barrow's Forum 28.

The show had a full cast of 100 youngsters and included the school's versions of Take That and the Supremes.

Our picture of the junior Teddy Bears in the 1995 show features, from left, Rebecca Shuttleworth, Cara Goodchild, Hayley Kennedy, Emma Sneesby, Carly Grisdale, Natasha Wharton, Emma Leigh Jones and Sarah Thomsett.

In October 1988 The Imperial School of Dancing and Karelles Entertainers joined forces for a dancing display and fayre at what was then called Barrow Civic Hall.

In 1989 the Charley Dance School presented That's Entertainment in the former Thorncliffe School, Barrow.
