VILLAGERS had fun in the sun back in 1997 as dancers, musicians and even a fancy dress marriage helped to get everyone in a good mood.
The Mail on Tuesday, July 8, in 1997, looked back on a successful Sunday event held on the village green at Kirksanton, near Millom, which raised a record £1,700.
Village hall secretary Sue Cawthorne said: “The money is to pay for the upkeep of the village hall and what’s left over will go towards funds for a disabled toilet for the village.
There were vintage vehicles and farm machinery on show, music from Millom’s Holborn Hill Royal Brass Band and a fancy dress contest which included a wedding staged by youngsters – complete with a junior vicar.
Also on offer was line dancing, races and a bouncy castle.
Mike Kelly, one of the organisers, said: “It was a good day and a lot of people were there. I think the great weather helped.”
