NATURE studies were more fun than normal at Barrow's Abbotsmead Junior School in 1989 as the pupils had their own collection of 20 ducklings.
The Mail on Monday, July 17, in 1989, noted: "The seven to 11-year-olds have been carrying out a project on growth and teacher Jill Rowe decided that incubating the little ducks would give them a quack at something practical.
"A total of 35 eggs spent the past 28 days in an incubator borrowed from another school then last week the first ducklings began to emerge."
Mrs Rowe said: "The children were absolutely delighted.
"We numbered the eggs and so many children have shared each eggs."
The article noted: "The growth rates of the 20 ducklings so far hatched have been closely monitored by the children."
