Father and son rescued from sands

A DRAMATIC rescue saw coastguards save a father and son rescued from rising tides.
The pair were riding quad bikes on sands close to Millom when rising water left them stranded at around 6.55pm on Friday.
One quad bike was lost to the tide when the pair attempted to ride to safety and they were forced to swim to a sandbank.
Haverigg Inshore Rescue and Millom Coastguard were called and rescued the men from the sandbank before it was engulfed.
The men were brought back to shore at around 7.30pm and an ambulance was called as a precaution.

Mike.....The pair were not idiots, but holiday makers naive to the tide in the estuary...Most people get into difficulty accidentally, not deliberately.. should we bill everyone when the service is used?? When should we not charge the rescuees?

I would like to let you all know it was Haverigg inshore rescue who performed this rescue and believe it or not Mike not everyone is a idiot who gets into trouble on the sea My family and i were infact renting a caravan and did not know of the way the tide came in(as there are no signs to let you know) there are no signs to state there is no quad biking on the beach and after talking to locals i was told there was no law against it .Infact 2 of them i spoke to were on moto x bikes.Im only glad that there are people who are willing to risk their lives for others.If they didnt me and my 10 year old son(who are both competant quad bike riders) would probably not be here so i would like to thank Stewart and everyone at the Haverigg inshore rescue center for rescuing me and my son and calling round the next day to make sure we were okay you guys do an invaluable job and are a true inspiration (hope i didnt spoil your night out)Also can i just say a big thank you to Mrs Sandra Obrien and her family im so glad you decided to walk your dog there that night without your phone call no one would have known we were in trouble i owe you so much.so thank you all who helped in the rescue and take care
