Expansion plans for Workington engineering plant
Last updated at 09:13, Monday, 25 February 2013
PLANS have been revealed for the major expansion of a Workington engineering firm.
TIS Cumbria Ltd, which has premises on Derwent Drive, wants to erect a single-storey building next to its existing site. TIS also has a site on Isabella Road.
The new plans, if approved by Allerdale council, mean the building will be the second on land owned by the firm.
It will be used to house the company’s welding and industrial X-ray machinery.
The expansion plans will bring all the firm’s operations into one place.
Plans for more jobs are also part of the firm’s overall £2 million project.
The firm hopes to expand its workforce from 50 staff to more than 80.
Directors John Bragg and Tony O’Pray said plans for the new structure were progressing well
Mr O’Pray said the development will be the first new engineering shop of this capacity to be purpose built in West Cumbria for almost 30 years.
Mr Bragg said: “We have had a very positive response from local industry, so much so that it has given us the confidence to extend the capacity of the site.”
