COMMITTED South Cumbria apprentices have been honoured at a college's first   

apprenticeship awards.

Kendal College Level Three business and administration apprentices organised The Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony which took place last week to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week. 

The event was attended by award winners and their employers.   

More than 20 awards were handed out at first the celebration which is to become an annual event.   

Charlotte Wallis, of Askam, was a prize winner.  

The 17-year-old is completing a Level Two intermediate apprenticeship in hairdressing at The Hair Lounge in Barrow.

Miss Wallis won an award for effort, commitment and achievement.

Her tutors said: "Charlotte is hard working and focused and commits herself to complete work to a high standard, and has shown continual professional development throughout the programme."

Marcus Houston, of Haverigg, won an award for the committment he has show to his course.   

The 22-year-old is a multi trade and refurbishment apprentice at Peninsular Property Maintenance Services in Kirkby.

The college said Mr Houston has excelled, and he is enthusiastic, showing commitment and dedication.

Rebekah Opie is an intermediate apprentice in health and social care at Grange Cottage Care Home in Grange. 

The 19-year-old, of Grange, won an award for distance travelled in her learning. 

Miss Opie started out on a traineeship programme and moved on to a Level Two intermediate apprenticeship in health and social care. 

He tutor said: "Rebekah shows care and commitment in her work and brings personal values to the forefront of her working practice with enthusiasm and commitment."

Jenna Marshall, 21, is a retail sales professional advanced apprentice at Hayes Garden World Ambleside.

Miss Marshall, of Ambleside, won an award for distance travelled 

She is described as working above her remit and continuing to develop at a fast pace.

Patricia Cembellin Torre won an outstanding achievement award.

The 22-year-old is an advanced apprentice in hospitality supervision at Cedar Manor Hotel, Windermere 

The apprentice, who is from Spain, won a national award for customer service. An award which was recognised by her employer and she is now running a hotel.
