A Barrow school created a carnival atmosphere for a successful transition event which welcomed youngsters from three neighbouring infants schools and their families.

Greengate Junior School put on a colourful and exciting day inspired by this summer's Rio Olympics for its annual infant and junior transition day last week.

Children from Ramsden Infants, Parkside GGI Academy and Brisbane Park Infants joined the juniors for a fun day with a carnival procession.

The infants schools have been working with Greengate Juniors over the past couple of months on art, singing and dancing projects all linked to Rio and the Olympic theme.

The festival bought all that work together. The Junior classes all had colour themes and the infant classes dressed in the colours of the rainbow.

The children had made wonderful carnival head dresses and they staged a procession on the school field. They then performed the music and dance items that they have been working on in front of a large audience of parents.

The concert was followed by parents, juniors infants and all staff joining together for afternoon tea refreshments. Greengate Juniors said everyone had great fun.

Paula Hillman, deputy head of Greengate Junior School, said: "There was a lovely community atmosphere, and it was the perfect opportunity for our feeder school infants to come and join in with the first of the many great Greengate events that they will soon be part of."
