Cybermoor open day
Organisations with an interest in developing community broadband projects are being invited to an open day in Alston to learn how the town developed its own super-fast network.
Cybermoor, the Alston based community owned social enterprise, is hosting the open day on Tuesday, 7th December, and will tell delegates how they have been able to provide wi-fi broadband to Alston Moor and the surrounding villages and towns and then upgrade the service by laying their own fibre optic cabling network, providing high speed broadband, TV and e-health services.
The event is aimed at giving delegates a greater understanding of how to develop their own Next Generation Access Network and the potential pitfalls which could affect their project.
Daniel Heery, Cybermoor’s Project Manager said “Access to Next Generation Broadband will soon be critical for rural areas as urban areas begin to benefit from much faster broadband speeds. Cybermoor has lead the way in developing community owned, social enterprise wireless and Next Generation Access networks. We receive numerous enquiries from communities throughout the UK and the aim of the event is to share this best practice with other rural communities.”
The event will take place at Cybermoor's headquarters in Alston Town Hall and will cover real life examples – from developing a business case, digging trenches, laying fibre, home connections and how to set up a social enterprise. The day will also include site visits to allow delegates to see at first hand some of the issues around laying fibre, ducting etc.
