Cumbrian bus firm launches more new routes

NEW bus routes from Carlisle to Penrith and Carlisle-Keswick will launch in the autumn.

Wigton-based Reays is launching the routes in competition to services operated by established rival Stagecoach.

These were initially due to have started next month

Operations manager Andy Horn said: “We are working on this at the moment. We are also planning a Kendal-to-Keswick service to start from the same date.”

Reays has created 20 jobs at a new depot in Penrith, which starts operations next month. It is due to take over the 105 Penrith to Greystoke and 106 Penrith to Kendal routes, run on behalf of Cumbria County Council, and has also won school and college contracts.

The firm, meanwhile, has denied its Lakes Hopper service has been a flop after reducing its timetable through the winter. It insists it has been a success and says it will be stepped up again from Easter.
