Cumbria's unemployment level falls
Last updated at 12:04, Wednesday, 16 May 2012
Unemployment in Cumbria fell in April for the second month running, mainly thanks to the creation of seasonal jobs in tourism.
Official figures just released show there were 9,438 people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, 334 fewer than in March.
The county’s unemployment rate fell from 3.2 to 3.1 per cent.
Allerdale’s jobless total dropped by 63 to 2,056, giving the borough an unemployment rate of 3.5 per cent. Copeland’s total fell by 52 to 1,642 (3.7 per cent), Eden’s by 41 to 437 (1.4 per cent) and Carlisle’s by 29 to 2,397 (3.6 per cent).
Nationally, the seasonally-adjusted claimant count fell by 13,700 to 1.59m.
And the rolling total, which includes people not eligible for Jobseeker’s Allowance, fell by 45,000 to 2.63m.
Average earnings increased by 0.6 per cent in the year to March.
