The session, run by Allerdale council and managed by Britain’s Energy Coast, was billed as a chance to prepare for 2013, get advice and to meet web designers and new-product innovators.

Sally Phillips, who recently set up Chimney Sheep selling draught excluders for chimneys, said: “This is the first networking event I’ve exhibited at. It’s daunting but I’ve had a lot of encourage-ment from people here.”

Catherine Eve, of Core Training, led an interactive session – New Year resolutions for business success.

Shelly Gambles, business support manager at Britain’s Energy Coast, said: “There was a real buzz in the room.”

The next Allerdale Business Connections session is at Wigton Market Hall, from 6pm to 8pm on January 31, when Michelle Masters will lead a session on marketing tips.
