Clustering together to harness ideas
Last updated at 21:09, Thursday, 09 August 2012
West Cumbrian businesses met last week to take forward a plan in line with the West Cumbria Economic Blueprint.
Members of Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster gathered on Friday at Lillyhall’s Energus building to discuss ways in which they could support strategies highlighted in the document.
Initiatives from the meeting will then become a formal response to the blueprint and will go towards the next phase – the implementation plan.
Phil Jardine, business development director of the cluster, said: “We’ll be monitoring progress and developing projects against our objectives as things develop in the coming months and years.
“We’ll look at everything from future jobs and opportunities, to education and skills for young people through to new infrastructure, inward investment and innovation.”
Tom Gilroy, chief executive of Britain’s Energy Coast, welcomed the proactive approach.
He said: “If we can harness the energy and ideas of the cluster’s membership – almost 200 companies – and work in partnership with them in the months and years to come then we will be superbly positioned to realise the full economic potential of West Cumbria.”
