It’s a little known fact that a popular Cumbrian hotel was a long-time favourite escape of a Hollywood legend.
Singer and actor Bing Crosby, renowned for his unforgettable role in the much-loved seasonal movie White Christmas, returned many times to stay at the Trout Hotel in Cockermouth.
He loved to fish for salmon in the River Derwent.
This year, guests can enjoy the Trout’s hospitality on Christmas Day, as the riverside hotel will be offering a lavish five-course Christmas lunch, complete with traditional turkey and all the trimmings.
The hotel had to close after it was damaged extensively in the 2015 floods, and people who had booked festive parties or meals had to go elsewhere.
It reopened earlier this year.
Sue Eccles, managing director of the Trout said: “We are quite proud of the fact that we were a favourite of such a Hollywood legend and particularly value his Christmassy link at this time of year.
"We will be doing Christmas in style this year, celebrating our return and the Trout will be beautifully dressed in festive style too.”
