Carlisle course aims to give locals advantage in job interviews

Job-seekers are being offered a place on a programme at Carlisle College to help them land cleaning jobs.

Housing landlord Riverside is offering pre-employment training for 20 people to help them build their confidence and skills before job interviews.

The course will teach interview techniques, help with CV writing skills and application forms, explain about Riverside and a housing management firm, Pinnacle which has three jobs on offer. Applicants will also work towards and complete a two-day cleaning qualification GNVQ.

At the end of the course, the applicants will be put forward for interview for one or more of the jobs which are available. The project is open to anyone aged between 16 and 65.

Kerry Glaister, employment and training officer at Riverside said: “We are committed to helping raise the prosperity of tenants and residents. Our aim is to help local people access employment and training, partnership working with local agencies helps us achieve this.

“Since April 2012 we have supported 75 people to paid employment and apprenticeships – which is fantastic news.

“The courses give people with little or no experience a chance to learn basic skills that are relevant for the positions.

“We are excited about this new opportunity in partnership with Pinnacle PSG Ltd to create three permanent vacancies.”

Jacq Longrigg, integrated employment services manager at Carlisle College, said: “We have been working with Riverside for some time.

“The commitment of the housing association to helping people into work offers a number of benefits to the community at large.

“All applicants will benefit from pre-employment training designed to enable them to maximise their skills and abilities in finding employment. giving them an advantage over other applicants in the wider job market.”

The closing date for applications is February 13.
