Pupils of Askam Village School won the £100 Barrow Arts Forum Bursary Shield for their school’s performance during the 2012 South Cumbria Musical Festival, held at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston last month.

The outgoing mayor and mayoress of Barrow, Councillor John Murphy, his wife Eleanor Murphy, and the SCMF chairman Keith Butcher presented pupils Maddy Porter, Mackenzie Shepherd and Charlie Miller with the award.

The week-long music festival saw schools from across South Cumbria compete for trophies and bursaries to put towards their schools’ music department funds.
