Aldred expresses interest in longer AFC stay

POWERHOUSE defender Tom Aldred says he would “definitely be interested” in extending his loan stay at Barrow AFC.
The former Carlisle United centre-half, who is set to continue in the heart of the Bluebirds defence at Tamworth tomorrow (kick-off 3pm), has impressed in his three appearances since joining on a one-month loan deal from Colchester United.
His spell at Holker Street is due to end on September 25, and when asked if he would like to stay longer, Aldred, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Tuesday, said: “I’d definitely be interested in staying for another month because I’m really enjoying playing games and I think it’s good for me and my development.
“So yes, I would be interested in extending my stay, but obviously it’s up to Colchester and Barrow, not me.”
Barrow head to The Lamb Ground still searching for their first win of the 2012/13 season, but having drawn their last two games, at home against Kidderminster (1-1) and Grimsby (2-2).
Just four points gained from a possible 21 has left the Bluebirds sat third-bottom of the Blue Square Bet Premier table, while tomorrow’s opponents, Tamworth, are six points better off in 13th.
Barrow turned in their best performance of the season in almost beating big guns Grimsby on Tuesday, and manager Dave Bayliss wants to see the same passion and effort on the road tomorrow.
“Every game is winnable, every game is losable at this level,” said the Bluebirds chief.
“We showed against a top side in Grimsby what we can do.
“We have to make sure that when we go away from home this weekend we show the same effort and determination against a good Tamworth side.
“Every game is tough and a battle. We have to go to Tamworth and be at our best again to get something out of the game.”
Bayliss could name the same starting XI for the third game in a row, providing left winger Danny Rowe overcomes the knock he suffered to his calf in midweek. If the 20-year-old doesn’t recover, Chris Moore could replace him.
In-form Richie Baker, who has scored in each of Barrow’s last two games, looks set to keep his place in central midfield, alongside Garry Hunter.
Tamworth, managed by Marcus Law, started the season with 10 points from a possible 12 but have lost their last three matches, against Wrexham, Braintree and Mansfield, scoring just one goal in the process.
Big striker Vinny Mukendi, who is on loan at Tamworth from Barrow, will not be eligible to play against his parent club. Fellow Tamworth forward Tommy Wright will also miss out due to suspension.
Barrow won 3-2 at Tamworth in January, after the two sides had shared a 1-1 draw at Holker Street on the opening day of the 2011/12 season.
Barrow (from): Hurst, M Pearson, Skelton, Anderson, Aldred, Rutherford, Hunter, Baker, Rowe, Boyes, Jackson, S Pearson, Hessey, Owen, Moore, Anoruo, Overson.
Tomorrow’s fixtures: AFC Telford v Lincoln, Alfreton v Luton, Cambridge Utd v Wrexham, Ebbsfleet v Mansfield, Gateshead v Dartford, Grimsby v Forest Green, Hyde v Hereford, Kidderminster v Southport, Macclesfield v Braintree, Newport v Stockport, Tamworth v Barrow, Woking v Nuneaton.
