Board investigation as AFC boss is suspended
Last updated at 15:48, Saturday, 04 February 2012
MYSTERY surrounds the suspension of Barrow AFC joint-manager Darren Sheridan.
Bluebirds director Tony Keen last night said: “In the best interests of the football club, Darren Sheridan has been suspended on full pay while we investigate an allegation that has been highlighted to the board.
“We will provide further information as and when we can.”
No details as to why Mr Sheridan has been suspended have been revealed by the club.
Mr Sheridan, who is based in Manchester, joined Barrow as a player in January 2007. He and Dave Bayliss became joint-managers in December that year, taking over a team that were languishing towards the foot of the Conference North table.
They quickly turned around AFC’s fortunes and in that same season led the club to promotion into the Conference Premier.
The management duo also guided the Bluebirds to fairytale FA Cup runs in seasons 2008/09 and 2009/10, when they played Middlesbrough and Sunderland respectively.
Then, at the end of the 2009/10 season, under the stewardship of Mr Sheridan and My Bayliss, Barrow won the FA Trophy final at Wembley.
Mr Sheridan, who is also listed as a football coach on the Salford City College website, is contracted to Barrow until the end of next season.
The Bluebirds use the facilities at Salford City College as their training base.
Barrow’s next game is set to be on Tuesday night, when they host Luton Town in a Blue Square Bet Premier fixture.
Mr Sheridan was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Evening Mail last night.

Look at the clubs disciplinary record this season,it reflects the managements attitude. Its nothing short of a disgrace and the board should get a grip. I do not know why he has been suspended but it must be serious for such a move.We wait and see.
