BARROW AFC sit proudly looking down from the top of the Conference table after last night’s amazing 4-3 win at Altrincham.

The Bluebirds had been second after beating Oxford in the opener while previous leaders Wrexham are in action tomorrow at York. It was an incredible rain-soaked night at Moss Lane with the visitors leading 2-0 on the hour mark before being pegged back to 3-3 and then snatching the winner ten minutes from time.

On target for Barrow were man of the match Jason Walker (2), Carlos Logan and substitute Paul Brown.

AFC joint manager Darren Sheridan today said that while delighted with the result they were still disappointed by the performance.

He said: “I think it was because we set the standards in playing so well against Oxford.  We didn’t get going at the start and I thought Altrincham were the better team for the first half.

“Second half we were okay and when we were cruising at 2-0 they were dead and buried. We should have been more relaxed at this stage, got the ball down but silly errors crept in.

“It was a sloppy goal that got them back in it, the two centre halves going for the same ball and Mike Pearson getting caught out. They’ve got another from a Tim Deasy mistake and we could easily have thrown it away.”

Sheridan said it was a testimony to the players’ standards that the managers could be disappointed after a 4-3 away win.

He added: “Me and Bayles are always looking for improvements, little bits here and there. We are always going to create chances all day long but need to be on our toes for the full 90 minutes.

“At the end of the day it was a brilliant result, the end to end stuff would be great for the fans to watch.”

The manager felt that Logan had a good game against his former club before being subbed, as against Oxford, by Brown.

Said Sheridan: “Carlos didn’t get in the game at first and then came to life, got his confidence and whipped in a few balls.

“Brownie’s come on and even he’s lost the ball a couple of times which isn’t like him. But he showed his character to score. The grass was quite long and holding the water which made it a difficult surface for the players.”

Barrow are next in action at Cambridge, who kept their 100 per cent record with a 2-1 home win over Kidderminster in front of a 3,000 crowd.
