SEAN Newton made his Barrow AFC debut as the Bluebirds were beaten 2-0 by Championship side Doncaster Rovers at Holker Street.

The former Chester City and Droylsden left-back had a solid first outing for the South Cumbrians in a competitive friendly.

Rovers dominated the early stages and hit the crossbar through Northern Ireland international Dean Shiels.

Simon Spender cleared off the line for Barrow before Jason Walker missed a good chance to put the hosts ahead.

Doncaster took the lead on 31 minutes when Lewis Guy fired into the bottom corner from 14 yards out.

The visitors doubled their advantage less than a minute after half-time when substitute Robbie Clark thundered a cracking 18-yard shot in off the underside off the crossbar. 

Doncaster hit the woodwork again later in the second half, while Walker and Jack Brierley both hit the side netting for the Bluebirds.
