Bluebirds fall to sixth straight defeat

Blue Square Bet Premier: Forest Green 3 Barrow AFC 0

Goals: Forest Green: Yan Klukowski (48 pen, 51, 90+4)

Attendance: 1,070 (including 29 Barrow supporters)

BARROW AFC fell to a sixth straight defeat after going down 3-0 at Forest Green Rovers.

The Bluebirds, who remain 13th in the table with five games left to play this season, were beaten by a second half hat-trick scored from Rovers striker Yan Klukowski.

Dave Bayliss' men have also now failed to score in six successive matches, while conceding 14 in their last three outings.

Barrow, playing in a changed formation with Paul Rutherford seemingly in a free role, started the mid-table clash brightly and striker Andy Cook saw a tenth minute shot saved by the legs of home keeper Sam Russell. Shortly after, Cook headed over under pressure.

Home forward Klukowski had the ball in the back of the net on 21 minutes but the assistant referee already had his flag up for offside.

The Bluebirds continued to play the better football, getting forward in numbers, hunting the ball when not in possession and zipping it about neatly when they did.

Further chances, however, were few and far between, with Barrow keeper Danny Hurst finishing a goalless first half having not had a save to make.

The Bluebirds made a terrible start to the second half and fell behind three minutes after the restart when centre-half Danny Hone was adjudged to have handled in the box and Klukowski slotted the resulting penalty-kick into the corner of the net, sending Hurst the wrong way.

Forest Green doubled their lead just three minutes later when a cross from the right by Michael Uwezu was swept home at the near post by Klukowski.

Hurst then turned over a Uwezu cross that was dipping in, before, at the other end, James Owen had a long-range shot saved and Cook drilled an effort just wide of the post.

Forest Green added a third deep into stoppage-time when Klukowski's 25-yard free-kick was superbly turned onto the woodwork by Hurst. Summing up Barrow's luck, the ball then rebounded in off the AFC keeper.

Manager Dave Bayliss made four changes to the Barrow side that was beaten 4-0 at home by Braintree last weekend. Keeper Hurst returned between the sticks after two months on the sidelines with a serious head injury sustained in the FA Trophy defeat at Wealdstone, while Kelvin Lomax, Paul Edwards and Adam Boyes were all promoted to the starting XI.
