Spacious family home offers impressive views

ANDREA Scraggs’ house may have plenty of space, inside and out, but it still offers the welcoming homely feel which people want from the place they call home. SUSAN GOODSON found out all about it
ANDREA and husband Colin didn’t just find a room with a view, but rooms with views when they bought their home six years ago.
The house, 14 Netherby Drive, Barrow, grabbed their attention for two reasons – the wonderful views right over to the Isle of Man and looking out from the middle bedroom on the right, views of the Lake District.
Andrea says: “We really fell for the beautiful views, which are helped by the fact the house is not overlooked at the front or back and we also loved that the house had loads of space.
“There are four bedrooms, although we use the fourth as a study at the moment, but when we saw it before we moved in, it had a single bed and a wardrobe in it.
“Although the house has masses of space and is really open, it still feels homely and not too big.”
The conservatory has proved a popular area of the home.
Andrea continues: “I love sitting in the conservatory and my husband has his dinner there most days. If the children have friends visiting, we usually end up locked away in there.
“It has heating so is really warm and we use it a lot, even in winter.”
The conservatory is fitted with an underfloor heating system as well as a double panelled radiator.
The private rear garden has proved a popular area, especially with the large decking space which has been made good use of with lots of parties.
There is also lawn and a rockery with plants and shrubs.
Andrea says: “It really is a lovely home and it gets plenty of light.
“There is also a downstairs toilet separate from the family bathroom and that is handy when we have visitors.
“The master bedroom also has an en-suite.
“We have decorated it in plain colours so it is just waiting for the new people to walk in and put their own stamp on the house.”
The area has proved a good neighbourhood to live in – hence the family is only moving up the hill.
The neighbours on either side are really nice people, Andrea adds.
There is always Schneider Road for shops.
At the front of the house is a double garage and there is easily room for three cars on the paved driveway.
Andrea genuinely loves the house and admits they are only moving up the hill to be nearer the bus route to give their teenage daughter more freedom.
She says: “If I could transport the house with us then I would.”
The house is on the market for £220,000, reduced from £245,000, with Janice Lyle Estates.
