Couple proud of their child-friendly home
Last updated at 15:19, Wednesday, 13 June 2012
A LOVELY modern home that has been able to provide a safe environment for a new baby is how Leanne Flay describes the house she moved into two years ago after her partner Kirk Miles had spent a year doing it up. SUSAN GOODSON found out more
KIRK, an electrician, took ownership of his Barrow home just two weeks before he and Leanne, a part-time care assistant, met.
He had wanted a project to work on and 141 Devon Street proved just the thing as it needed modernising – and that is exactly what the couple have done together.
Leanne, 25, happily admits that Kirk, 23, used his skills as an electrician at BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines while she picked out the decor.
They have combined to create a modern but cosy home that is easy to maintain and, since their daughter Lacey Miles came along 15 months ago, has easily adapted to her needs.
She says: “We did everything to it as it needed to be modernised, including putting in central heating.
“Kirk did most of the work himself while I enjoyed picking out the decor.
“It does have a really nice feel to it and I love it in the mornings when the sun comes into the lounge.
“We also have a kitchen/dining room which is great when we are sitting down at the table.”
The kitchen itself has also proved popular with Leanne and includes little red LED lights around the bottom of the cupboards which match the colouring of the kitchen.
She says: “They look really nice at night when the other lights are off.”
In its new state she adds the house is very easy to clean thanks to the tiles and laminate tops.
The lounge includes a feature fire surround which is highlighted thanks to the spotlights around it – another feature of the house Leanne has enjoyed.
The house also has a handy loft which provides good storage room.
But the neighbourhood itself has also endeared itself to the couple.
Leanne, who comes from Walney, explains: “I have definitely liked living so close to Barrow park and it is an easy walk into town with the baby.
“It is a nice neighbourhood and very quiet.”
Outside Leanne says the back yard is a good size and includes a storage shed.
The couple have been very happy in Devon Street, but now they are getting married they want to buy a house together as husband and wife and develop their family life.
Leanne says: “The house is definitely child-friendly and there have been no problems with Lacey coming into it, but we would like a garden for her to play in rather than just the back yard.
“It is also about us starting our family life together as a married couple.”
141 Devon Street, Barrow, is on the market for offers in the region of £74,950 with Cumberland Estate Agents.
A part exchange would be considered.
