BARROW indie night Twang! is back next week, this time showcasing two leading North West solo artists.

Ulverston singer-songwriter David Kay and Morecambe's Joe McCorriston have just got back from touring in Europe together, and now wrap up a short run of UK dates at The Drawing Room, in Barrow, on Saturday July 9.

Both performers have distinctive acoustic styles, citing diverse influences from the likes of Johnny Cash, The Jam and Bob Dylan between them.

A well-known performer locally since his early teens, David has had songs from his debut EP played on BBC Radio 1 and on BBC 6 Music, and he was hand-picked to support The Jam’s Bruce Foxton and singer-songwriter Scott Matthews.

In May he released his debut album, Greasy Elbows, which has also had its lead single featured on BBC Introducing, and the new tracks feature heavily in the live set.

His regular tour partner, Joe, has appeared in Cumbria dozens of times over the last couple of years, including slots at Kendal Calling and Northbound Festivals.

The punk-influenced solo performer has found favour supporting a number of rock bands as well as with headline tours of his own.

He too has a new release to showcase, the Pre-Drinks EP, giving a taste of things to come on his as-yet-unreleased third album.

As ever, after the live music, the Twang DJs will be taking the party into the early hours with a selection of indie, electronica and alternative music.

The free show gets under way at 8.30pm.
