THE racing career of the speedboat most closely associated with Coniston Water will feature in a talk this autumn.

Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7 boat crashed and sank during an attempt on the world water speed record in January 1967.

He broke eight world speed records on water and on land in the 1950s and 1960s and in 1964 became the only person to set both records in the same year.

Keith Hick will give a talk on The Bluebird K7 Story at Carnforth Station Heritage Centre on Monday, October 10, from 7.30pm.

He will tell the story of Donald Campbell's water speed records and look at the retrieval of the boat and the project to re-build it.

This will be followed by a pair of short films on modern railway engineering projects.

They are called Route Seven Alliance - about the West Coast Main Line - and A Long Weekend in Brinnington.

Admission to the event is £4 and details of other events organised to support the historic station can be found on the website at www.carnforthstation.co.uk
