A FIRST World War study day is being hosted by the King's Own regimental collection at the City Museum in Lancaster as part of a lottery-supported project called Recommissioned.

Museum curator, Peter Donnelly, will offer offer an insight into the Great War through the regimental museum's collections.

Those taking part will discover the stories of objects and archives not usually on display and find out how to "read" a photograph and start on a trail to discover the history of soldiers in the First World War.

The charge for the study day is £6 and will include lunch and refreshments.

It will take place on Thursday, March 23, from 10.30am to 4pm.

The study day will be held in the museum's meeting room which has an entrance in New Street, at the rear of the City Museum, Lancaster.

The Recommissioned project is the first lottery-funded project undertaken by the Friends of Lancaster City Museum.

Hundreds of people attended performances, tours and talks in November to find out more about the role of the King's Own in the 1916 Battle of the Somme.

The project was awarded £10,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the first of the events coincided with the museum's exhibition 141 Days: The Battle of the Somme.
