ULVERSTON rugby league team-mates are ready to put club allegiances to one side and go toe to toe in the name of charity. 

The Dragley Beck outfit's annual charity boxing night is a 450-ticket sell-out taking place at Coronation Hall on Saturday December 5. 

Current and former Ulverston payers have been training hard in preparation for putting their skills to the test in the ring, with eight bouts scheduled in the presence of referee - former Barrow Raiders forward and renowned cage fighter Brett McDermott.

Local boxers - professional middleweight Liam Conroy and former pro Lee Kellett - are the judges, with Andy Allen providing the entertainment in between bouts. 

The good casues which will benefit from are Furness Mountain Rescue, Furness Young Carers and Animal Welfare. Organiser Alan Moses said: "Once again we’ve sold out within a week of the tickets going on sale. 

"We have three great charities, Furness Mountain Rescue, Furness Young Carers and Animal Welfare, with great sponsorship form local companies. "The time and effort it takes to organise the event is colossal. Thanks to the committee, the local sponsors and most importantly the boxers as without them it couldn’t happen." 

The fights set to take place are: Joe Ward v Howard Rowley; Neil Atkinson v Brian Benson; Marc Wilkinson v Che Smith; Martin John v Col Athersmith; Tom Wilkinson v Josh Procter; Mike Worrall v Tom Appleby; Rory Wallace v Matt Dean; Ryan Watson v George Burton (of Whitehaven). 

Walney Cents gained bragging over Barrow Island in their charity boxing night at the Nines on Friday. Cents won six of the contests, with the other two being draws. 

Results were asn follows: Rob Harvey v Ben Garner (draw), Jacob McParland (winner) v Jake Holden, Jamie Ralph (winner) v Blake Parsons, Carl McBain (winner) v Lewis Singleton, Jonathan Corkill v Scott Hadwin (draw), Matty McBain (winner) v Ryan Clegg, Jamie Morrow (winner) v Kyle Holden, Liam Finch (winner) v Spencer Hoyland.
