ROOSE Pioneers are seeking first Cumbria League win of the season when they take on neighbours Ulverston at Redwaters tomorrow.

Looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in the league are Walney who go to Distington, while Barrow Island face a tough 80 minutes at Seaton.

Millom, who have an unblemished record in the National Conference Division Two, go to Leigh East, while at Fallowfield Park Askam look to make it two wins on the bounce with Cass Panthers the visitors.

ROOSE PIONEERS v ULVERSTON

(Redwaters 2.30pm)

PIONEERS seek that elusive first win of the season and will look to continue the form of their last match at Glasson against Phil Atkinson’s boys.

Glasson, who pushed Walney all the way at Central Drive last weekend, had to come from behind in the final minutes to deny Pioneers their first victory two weeks ago.

Both Pioneers and Ulverston will not finalise their line-ups until after tonight, Pioneers at training and Ulverston following their A-team’s Harry Warman Cup final at Craven Park.

Pioneers coach Jim Perry said ahead of the clash: “It has been difficult getting a team out each week and we see this game as an opportunity to get that first win.

“We played really well at Glasson, we went very close to winning. The lads are working hard but it is difficult not being able to field what we call a full-strength side due to several factors.”

Experienced campaigners Steve Perry and Glen Phillips are ruled out along with Steve Neale, while Adam Batty is available, along with Furness rugby union player Will Mallinson.

Ulverston boss Atkinson is also playing the waiting game. He has no less then 15 players unavailable for one reason or another.

He is forced to bring in former junior player Brad Joy after just one training session.

He is joined by Dan Crabtree, who has put in some good performances for the second string. Howard Rowley and Jack Akrigg are in the 17-man squad which will be finalised later tonight.

Atkinson said: “It will be a difficult game and though we beat them at home, I believe we will go into the game as underdogs despite Pioneers still not having a win this season.

“We have so many players out so we are hoping our A-team will be injury-free after tonight’s Harry Warman final against Barrow Island.

“There is plenty of spirit in the camp and when our backs are against the wall we seem to pull it off.”

ASKAM v CASTLEFORD PANTHERS

Fallowfield Park 2.30pm

ASKAM coach Mike Wilson is looking, with seven games remaining, to put some wins on the board as he seeks a place in the top half of National Conference Division Two table.

The Villagers have had a poor run of late but got back on track with a 36-32 win at Oldham St Annes last weekend.

Wilson said: “We have to build on last week’s win but we know that despite Cass being down the bottom half of the table they have run teams close lately.”

Jack Moses, Dan Sayle and Tom Goffatt return, but ruled out are Gary Bolton (shoulder) along with the unavailable Alex Brailsford and Stu High.

DISTINGTON v WALNEY

JAMIE Morrow misses his first game of the season after damaging his shoulder in last week’s win over Glasson as the Cents go into the in the Cumbria League top-of-the-table clash in the west of the county.

Coach Shaun Morrow has a keen eye on the treatment table before he can announce his final 17. Jack Pedley (shoulder), Matt Elliott (foot) and Danny Lockhart (hamstring) are each in a race against the clock.

Morrow said: “This is the game of the season as both teams push for the title. They are a very difficult team to beat on their pitch. They are a physical side. We won 14-6 at home and 11-10 in the Cumbria Cup away so we know what we are up against.

“Last week we struggled to beat Glasson with so many out and no half backs when Jamie (Morrow) went off but we have Brad Nicholls back tomorrow, which is vital.”

Also back are Liam Finch and Dave Warne as the Cents look to maintain their 100 per cent record of nine from nine. They have two games in hand on Distington (10 wins from 11) who are two points clear at the top.

SEATON v BARROW ISLAND

COACH Neil Shaw said he will not be pulling on a shirt despite his squad being down in numbers. He is taking in tonight’s A-team clash with Ulverston in the Harry Warman final, hoping that his players come through unscathed.

Shaw said: “We are having to take stock tonight. We have so many players not available, so hopefully we have no serious injuries tonight. One thing for sure I won’t be playing.”

Regular players ruled out are Matt Parkinson, Lee dwards, Richard Chatfield and Ben Garner.

LEIGH EAST v MILLOM

WILL 13 prove to be lucky or unlucky for Millom?

The National Conference Division Two leaders go into battle against Leigh East without coach Tom Sibley, who is attending a wedding. He is also missing next week when he ties the knot himself.

Also unavailable for Millom are Ian Armstrong, Paul Evans and the Kelly brothers, Adam and Dane.

The Woollybacks are on a crest of a wave with 12 straight wins but face a tough 80 minutes at promotion rivals East.

Sibley said: “We are without key players but will still field a strong side. It is a must-win if we are to remain top and stay on course for the title. East are a hard team to beat, though we beat them at home and away in the cup and we can do it again.”

Hindpool’s scheduled home game with St Judes A has been called off due to the Wigan side dropping out of the North West Men’s League Division One.
