NORTH Walney proved to be the cream of the crop once again as they produced a series of superb displays to claim victory in the Barrow Schools Joe Humphries five-a-side tournament.

After a stunning year, in which they have been crowned the best team in the land by winning the Danone National Cup at Lilleshall, and taken home the Dick Macintosh Trophy, North Walney added another piece of silverware to their ever-growing collection to cap off a remarkable period for the Year 5 and 6 team.

Twenty-four teams took part in the five-a-side competition held at Pulse Soccer, with future stars of the game showcasing their skills on the 3G surface.

It was clear from the off that North Walney would be the team to stop though, storming through their group with three wins from three, notching 13 goals in the process.

They carried that form over to the knockout stage where they faced a talented Victoria outfit who themselves had been scoring goals for fun. But an astonishing display from North Walney saw them stroll to a 4-0 success.

That set them up for a semi-final with Yarlside, who were boasting their own 100 per cent record, including the performance of the tournament when they thrashed St Georges 8-0.

An end-to-end thriller, in which both sides had chances to win, was only settled in the final minute when a last-gasp strike saw North Walney edge it 3-2, sending them through to face Dane Ghyll in the final.

Dane Ghyll had been on a procession to the final, winning all of their matches in convincing style.

The expected tight affair never came to fruition though, North Walney producing another devastating display to win Dane Ghyll 4-1.

This ensured they were worthy winners of a fantastic competition, played in the right spirit by all entering.
