Millom 38

Dewsbury Celtic 10

MILLOM continued their National Conference Division Two dominance with victory over Dewsbury at Devonshire Road.

The hosts extended their lead at the summit to four points and their winning run to 12 matches with a convincing display.

With a strong wind blowing across the pitch, it was never going to be a classic, and the opening 20 minutes proved this to be the case.

Both teams played tight rugby and it was going to be a matter of who was the fittest.

Millom found Dewsbury difficult to break down and on the 20th minute it took a neat chip from veteran Paul Evans for coach Tom Sibley to win the chase to the touch down. An Adam Kelly conversion gave Millom a 6-0 lead.

It stayed that way until the 36th minute, when another neat chip, this time from Kelly was grounded by Ricky Donaghue. Kelly converted for 12-0.

The hosts finished the half the stronger and, with good rugby down the right, found strong-running Steve Dawson to crash over. Kelly's kick secured an 18-0 half-time lead.

Millom started the second half well, as man-of-the-match Warwick Carter crossed the whitewash, with Kelly converting.

The Woollybacks were in total control, with strong forward displays from Paul Carter, Dane Kelly and Lee Edmondson, along with Marcus O'Brien, and the result was never in doubt.

They managed to score a further three tries through Anthony Green, O'Brien and Sibley, with more excellent kicking from Kelly.

Dewsbury, to their credit, managed two tries in the second half.
