PETER Lupton’s rugby league swansong at Devonshire Road on Sunday will be a historic occasion when he plays for Millom against a Millom Select (3pm kick-off).

The 33-year-old will pull on a Millom shirt and play alongside brothers Paul and Graham for the first time – his last game on English soil before he jets off to the USA to join his wife and young family.

A genuine all round footballer, Lupton has come full circle after a career that started in the Woollybacks’ junior ranks.

That set him on the road to success, ultimately skippering Wales in last season’s European Cup. He also played for his adopted country in the 2013 World Cup.

The talented utility player plied his trade in Super League level with London Broncos (27 appearances), Hull FC (48) Castleford (57) and Crusaders (70). He came back to Cumbria to join Workington before heading south to Barrow in March. He played in all games since signing and crossed for some good tries with some outrageous dummies.

He guided a young Barrow side around the park and his experience will be missed as Raiders go into their final games with Rochdale and York. It is is hoped his experience has rubbed off on the younger players.

Millom stalwart Paul Roskell said: “The three lads have never played together and it was Peter’s wish to bow out playing alongside Paul and Graham.

“We are hoping that a big crowd turns, out as the monies raised will go to Peter charities – the Air Ambulance and the Life Saver charity at Alder Hay Children’s Hospital, which is coordinated by Millomites Keiran and Steph Clark. It should be a good day out for rugby followers and hopefully they will turn out in force.”
