HAWCOAT Park kick off their league campaign, plus a look ahead to other featured games.

Millom v Keswick

AFTER the disappointment of a last minute one- point defeat in the Cumbria Cup to Egremont last week, Millom will be looking to build on what was a great effort by the Blue and Whites of Wilson Park. Trevor Dixon and Doug Jardine return to the side at wing forward and wing respectively with fellow back row forward David Thompson hopeful of carrying on his try scoring exploits of last week.

There is no doubt that this will be a toughie for Millom but the way they performed last week will have Keswick quaking in the boots.

Aldwinians v Hawcoat Park

WITH a superb win at home against Wigton in the Cumbria Cup, Hawcoat Park travel to Aldwinians for their first Lancashire/Cumbria League game of the season.

Mike Lightfoot returns to further bolster the squad but with Adam Jackson and Andy Graham missing there are still places in the team that need filling. Joining Lightfoot in the back row will be Matt Sayle and Will Mallinson who were in superb form in last week’s victory. Front five should remain unchanged with Jason Priss, Adam Grainger and John Donnan leading from the front.

Furness v Cockermouth

FURNESS’ first team get things under way at the Strawberry Grounds in their first outing of the season against a Cockermouth side that finished mid table in last season’s Cumbria League.

Pre-season has gone well for the Blues and Joe Mallinson takes up the skipper’s role for the coming year. Paul Dean makes his debut at prop and although Martin Ward will be starting in the second row, it is expected he will join Dean in the engine room at some point. Former Askam RL first teamer Adam Pearson will also be joining the squad.

Cockermouth 2nds v Furness 2nds

FURNESS start their campaign on the road at Cockermouth.

Will Hetherington will no doubt be pulling the strings with last season’s man of the moment for the first team, Cameron McClure, helping out in the front row as he works in the north of the county. Donald Stewert showed up well last season when playing at centre so hopefully he will be available to pull on the Furness jersey on this weekend.

Hawcoat Park A v Millom A

THE second teams of Hawcoat Park and Millom take to the field with both sides looking to hit the road running.

Hawcoat will be looking to the Sayle brothers, Rory and Lewis, to start this year as they left off last year – going forward at every opportunity.

All players meet at Hawcoat 1.15pm for 3pm kick off.

Millom have had a resurgence at A-team level with last season’s under-16s now coming of age along with some of the old guard returning. Although they finished last season without a squad, the guys at Wilson Park have really pulled together and are looking forward to the campaign ahead.

Millom players meet at Wilson Park at 1pm.
