FURNESS have the chance for quick revenge for their agonising Cumbria League defeat against Windermere tomorrow.

The Amber and Blacks head to the Strawberry Grounds in the Cumbria Cup for the pick of the weekend’s fixtures.

Elsewhere, Hawcoat Park are also in cup action, while Ambleside host Furness A and Millom play in the Cumbria League.

FURNESS v WINDERMERE

(Strawberry Grounds, 2.15pm)

TWO weeks ago, Windermere were 14-12 victors after a late James Crawford penalty saw them take the spoils at Furness.

The Blues will be out for revenge tomorrow, with skipper Joe Mallinson at the forefront of everything Furness do.

Rhys Studt will have the bit between his teeth, with Paul Dean and Martin Ward never far from the action.

Corne Els will be looking to up his game, along with Dillon Tapatu, if he is available this weekend.

With Tez Nueto on the wing, anything is possible with his mazy running.

Sam Attard and Dan Sayle will need to be on their game, with Ade White always on hand to back the runners up.

Steve Perry and George Smith will be pivotal taking the team forward. With kicking for territory important, both have great feet and could be game changers.

Mere welcome players back after a Stag weekend having seen last week’s game cancelled as Creighton could not raise a side.

Skipper Crawford is back in the squad and the whole team will have fresh legs.

The team is yet to be announced, but the front row will contain stalwart Dan Harrison, Jamie Hardman and Ian Todd, with Joe Turner also looking for a start.

The Benson boys, Jon and Graham, will be looking to get some game-time with a tight with robust back row of John Sheasby, Leigh Wood and Paul Mahler in the thick of things.

Dan Neild’s link-up play with fly-half Bertie Hodgson or Jamie Dootson will need to be on the money as they look to give clean ball to release wing men Moses Dawson and Tom Atkinson.

This looks like the game of the weekend, with the team that wants it more coming away with the spoils of war.

SILLOTH v HAWCOAT PARK

AFTER a North Lancs/Cumbria League defeat at the hands of table-toppers St Benedicts, Hawcoat look to return to winning ways in the cup.

The Hawcoat coaching staff will be looking to pick the strongest team possible as they travel to Silloth in the Cumbria Cup.

Scott Kaighan will hope to have a fully-fit front row, with Jason Priss, Brad Morrow and John Donnan all in contention.

The second row is settled, with Ash Mowat and Will Mallinson putting in the hard yards backing up the three guys in front. Back-rowers Matt Sayle and Mike Lightfoot are more than a handful and can help cause an upset.

The link play between forwards and backs is key and, with Antony Munday and James Howden at the helm, Hawcoat have a good set of hands in play.

The return of Andy Graham at centre to partner Chris Burns is a big bonus, along with Adam Jackson back at full-back.

MILLOM v MORESBY

(Wilson Park, 2.15pm)

MILLOM take on the might of Moresby looking to return to an even keel and get a win under their belts.

The lack of victories recently is not for the want of trying, but the Blue and Whites have not had the rub of the green.

They will be looking to keep the same team up and running as in previous weeks, with main man Ian Cummings leading the troops in his usual hard-hitting way, with fellow second-rower Joe Thomlinson always on his shoulder.

The front row sees Callum Lamont and Steve Watson at prop as they try to keep the team going in the right direction. John Falconer at full-back will be taking on the Moresby back line at every opportunity, as well as taking control of defence.

The men out wide will need to finish off the moves and opportunities put in front of them, so Jarty Robinson and Simon Forster will need to be on their game. Ball from Andrew Mellen and fly-half Jordan Moyes is key, with self-belief vital for a Millom side capable of taking the points.

AMBLESIDE v FURNESS A

(Galava Park, 2.15pm)

AFTER being soundly beaten by Aspatria last time out, Ambleside are back on home turf to take on Furness.

The Blues should be on top form as they travel with a week’s rest under their belts.

The Ambleside pack will be led by Paul Aires, Greg Stephenson and Jamie McClelland, who can squeeze the life out of any scrum.

The back three is expected to be Greg Meschino, David Wajowski and skipper Alfie White, who will need to be first to the breakdown to snaffle any ball away. Paul Longster will be shoring up the second row with son Keenan firing the ball out from the breakdown from scrum half.

The centres could be any of a few players, with Ben Roe and Stephen Matthews likely to start. The man feeding them ball will be Lewis Kelly.

Full-back Fraser Leyton has been a revelation of late and will control things in defence and attack as Ambleside look to return to winning ways.

Furness will be trying to put paid to any good work Ambleside do with their own brand of rugby, with Jack Budgen giving his all.

Regulars Joel Williams and Ben Livesey’s high tempo game will be required to make inroads into the Ambleside backs. Alex Mason will be involved in everything, backed up by Adam Pearson and the evergreen Steve Neale.

With the likes of Reece Craig, Iestyn Humphries and Brandon Edmondson at hand, Furness will be looking to upset the applecart and come away with the points.
