AFTER losing their last two games in cup competitions, Holker Old Boys were unable to get a win but managed to pick up at point from their North West Counties Division One clash with Irlam at Rakesmoor.

The Stags had to come from behind after Tom Russell put the visitors ahead in the 67th minute, with Brad Hubbold equalising six minutes later.

Come the end of the season it may be a good point as Irlam are now fourth but have games in hand on the top three.

Holker are 10th in the table but have played fewer games than any other team in the division.

Their next two matches are away to Cheadle Town and St Helens Town who are just above them in the table.

The Furness Senior Cup got under way and both finalists from last season made early exits.

Holders Bootle from the Furness Premier League hosted West Lancs Division Two side Furness Cavaliers and they gave their visitors a tough game.

Oliver Smith gave Bootle a half-time lead, but goals from Kyle Delves and Ross Walker looked like putting Cavs through until Matthew Clarke scored a 90th-minute equaliser that sent the tie to penalties.

Cavaliers held their nerve to win the shootout 5-3.

Last year’s runners-up Askam United reserves fell at the first hurdle, going down 3-2 to Crooklands Casuals reserves.

Cassies’ were 3-0 up at half-time through Terry Anderson (2) and Andrew Pearson, but Askam gave it a real go in the second half, pulling two goals back through Brad Jackson.

Millom had home advantage against Holker Old Boys reserves but the Furness Premier League side caused a surprise, winning 2-1. Millom’s goal came from Carl Waters.

Walney Island avoided a potential banana skin by beating Dalton United reserves 5-2 at Tummerhill.

Their goals came from Matt Lockley (2), Keiron Solloway (2) and Dan Turner.

Swarthmoor Social also progressed as they beat Barrow Wanderers 4-1 thanks to goals from Sean Nicholson (2), Ryan Lackey and Cameron Barker. Jake Rees replied for Wanderers.

The all FPL tie between Barrow Celtic and Hawcoat Park reserves was settled by penalties, with Hawcoat winning 6-5.

Over 90 minutes the tie finished 1-1. Rob Johnson scored for Celtic, with Steffan Weatherburn on target for Hawcoat.

Three local sides were in Lancashire FA Cup action, but only Kirkby United made progress to round three. A brace from Matty Bruce earned them a 2-1 win at Hurlston Hall.

Haverigg lost 3-1 at home to Thornleigh with Andrew Walker their goal scorer.

Britannia were at Croft FC and Brian White’s young side started well but failed to capitalise on their chances.

The home side were more clinical and went 3-0 up before Dillon James pulled a goal back. Brit regained control of the game but were unable to score again and it ended 3-1.

Vickerstown reserves remain top of the FPL Riflemans Garage Premier Division, but they were made to work hard by a Millom side who played far better than their league position suggests.

The bottom-of-the-table side were 3-1 up through goals from Jamie Cairns (2) and Tony Woodburn, but the sending-off of Andrew Woodburn proved crucial as Vickerstown came back to win 4-3. The leaders’ goals came from Iain McDonald, Jackson Round, Denis Tunstall and an own goal.

GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves and Furness Cavaliers reserves started the day in second and third places respectively and ended up swapping their spots as Cavaliers won 3-0 to inflict a first league defeat on Andy Butler’s side. Cavs’ scorers were Adam Goligy, Jordan Hughes and Lee Boyd.

Furness Rovers reserves and Swarthmoor Social reserves drew 2-2 at the Training Pitch.

Tom Clynch and Will Heywood scored for Rovers with Joel Lackey and Nathan Adams (penalty) on target for Swarthmoor.

With Crooklands reserves in cup action Croftlands Park took full advantage to go top of Premier Tiles Division One thanks to a 4-0 win over Walney Island reserves. Scorers were Shane Toal (2), Callum Allardyce and Matt Dean.

Holker Old Boys A were the division’s top-scorers as they beat Barrow Wanderers reserves 8-2.

The Holker scorers were Josh Haney, Spencer Erdis, Johnny Peacock, James Curtis (2) and Connor Erdis (3). Phil Chesworth and Graham Clarke netted for Wanderers.

Hawcoat Park A moved up to fourth with a 5-1 victory over Haverigg United reserves. Top-scorer Ryan Muncaster grabbed a hat-trick ,with Max Henderson and Lee Upton also on target. Dale Graham replied for Haverigg.

Barrow Celtic reserves also triumphed 5-1, with Ryan Barker scoring a hat-trick and Derran Johnson two against GSK Ulverston Rangers A. Ormsgill North End are five points clear at the top of Division Two and look like they will take some stopping.

On Saturday they beat Askam United A 8-1, with goals from Damian Minnican (3), Paul Williams (2), Si Thompson, Connor Bone and Mike Crampton. Kailym Shepherd replied for Askam.

Millom A are also having no trouble finding the net, with Mark O’Brien bagging five as they beat Dalton United A 7-0. Chris Powell and Ryan Edgelar scored the other goals.

The other two games in Division Two finished 2-1, with FC Barrow Island and Bootle reserves the two victorious sides.

FC Barrow Island beat Barrow Celtic A with goals from Jonny O’Halloran and Chris Bell, while Lee Cargan scored for Celtic.

Bootle’s scorers against Walney Island A were Tally Thompson and Kevin Hartley, with Carl Hill scoring for Walney.

In the West Lancashire League Premier Division, Crooklands Casuals gained a much-needed win over Lostock St Gerards to move out of the bottom two.

The visitors led 1-0 at half-time, but a Kevin Edwards penalty got Cassies level and goals from Chris Wraighte and Dave Mansergh sealed the 3-1 win.

A severely depleted Vickerstown side were trounced 8-0 at Charnock Richard.

Hawcoat Park are still challenging at the top of Division One as a 2-0 win at Poulton saw them go third. The goals came from Elliott Moore and Matty Haythorn.

In the derby at Canal Foot, both goalkeepers, Jarek Bittner and Sean Hagan, were in good form as GSK Ulverston Rangers and Askam United drew 1-1.

Askam took the lead through Matt France, but James Pinnegor saved Rangers a point with a 90th-minute equaliser.

Dalton United look like having a long season ahead after a 5-0 home defeat against Turton left them rooted to the foot of the table.

The only local side in action in Division Two were Furness Rovers and a Joe Tindale goal was enough to earn them a good 1-0 win at Kendal County.
