HOLKER Old Boys completed a North West Counties Division One double over Eccleshall with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Rakesmoor Lane on Saturday.

Having beaten their visitors 2-1 in September in the reverse fixture, the Stags took their unbeaten run in the league to six games thanks to a first half strike from Josh Woodend and further goals after the break from Phil Coombe and Gareth Smith.

Holker are seventh in the table, just outside the play-off places with games in hand, but now take a break from league action with cup games against Ashton Town and Colne coming up next.

Holker’s reserves had a happy Halloween as they gave Furness Cavaliers a nightmare at Rampside Road in the FPL Riflemans Garage Premier Division.

In an awesome display of finishing Sean Mellen’s side put in one of the best performances I have seen in the FPL for several seasons as they won 10-1 against a side who were top of the table two weeks ago!

Cavaliers had no answer to the pace and movement of Holker who were ruthless in front of goal. Scorers were Danny Sawyer, 3, Greg Galloway, 3, Max Wiper, 2, Troy Magee and Glyn Dixon with four of the goals being wonderful strikes. Glen Warburton and Steven Gill were impressive, controlling the midfield for 90 minutes. Jordan Hughes scored Cavs’ consolation goal.

Leaders GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves’ game with Hawcoat Park reserves was postponed while Vickerstown reserves slipped up again, going down to Furness Rovers reserves 3-2. Rovers’ scorers were Ben Timmiss, 2, and Joe Bradbury with youngsters Tom Clynch, Joe Loughran and Ben Comish all playing well. Vickerstown’s goals came from Scott McDonald and Craig May.

Haverigg United currently sit in mid-table but they have several games in hand and have only lost once. They beat Swarthmoor Social reserves 5-2 thanks to goals from John Chmiel, 2, Luke Chmiel, 2, and Bradley Maine. Swarthmoor replied through Joel Lackey and Ben Mooney.

Kirkby United continue to fly the flag for the FPL in the Lancashire Amateur Cup after they progressed to the last 16 with a 2-1 win over Newman College.

In an excellent game of football Dave Regan put Kirkby ahead with a trademark free-kick but the visitors equalised on the hour mark. Paul Cleasby scrambled home the winner for Kirkby with 10 minutes left.

Premier Tiles Division One leaders Croftlands Park were 1-0 down to a Danny Mackay goal against Barrow Celtic reserves but came back to win 5-1 thanks to goals from Matt Dean, 2, Andrew Currie, 2, and Callum Allardyce.

Hawcoat Park A are six points behind in second place after they beat Vickerstown A 6-0 with goals from Sam Fell, 2, Ryan Muncaster, Lee Upton, Callum Baynes and Mike Wilkes.

Holker Old Boys A moved above Crooklands Casuals reserves with a 4-1 win in a game that was goalless at half-time. Holker’s goals came from Spencer Erdis, Josh Haney, an own goal and Connor Erdis, with Liam Steele replying for Crooklands.

Dalton United reserves got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Haverigg United reserves through a brace from Scott McCabe and a goal from Aaron Quayle.

Walney Island reserves’ improved form continued as a Will Hinde hat-trick earned them a 3-1 win over GSK Ulverston Rangers A for whom Liam Croft scored.

In Division Two the game between Askam United A and Coniston reserves was postponed and unfortunately Barrow Celtic were unable to raise an A team for the second week running and have resigned their third team from the league. Leaders Ormsgill North End stay six points clear at the top of the table following an emphatic 7-0 win over FC Barrow Island. Scorers were Damian Minnican, 2, Nathan Cloudsdale, 2, Paul Williams, Marc Whitehead and Connor Bone.

Millom A won again with Mark O’Brien on target yet again. He scored twice as did Ryan Edgelar in the 4-0 win over Kirkby United reserves.

In the Westmorland Senior Cup Cartmel kept a third successive clean sheet as they won 6-0 against Ambleside United.

Results for the two local sides in the West Lancashire League Premier Division weren’t favourable as Vickerstown and Crooklands Casuals both lost.

Injury-ravaged Vickerstown were beaten 2-0 at home to Slyne with Hest while Crooklands lost 5-1 at Longridge Town.

Classy striker Brad Carsley scored all five for Longridge who have title ambitions while Chris Wraighte gave Cassies hope when he pulled it back to 2-1 early in the second half.

Just before the end of the game Longridge player/manager Lee Ashcroft was sent off following a tackle and in the ensuing melee Dave Mansergh received a second yellow card.

Goals from Kieran Solloway and Sam Beckman earned Walney Island a 2-1 win at Leyland United.

Furness Cavaliers were 3-1 down at Croston Sports with 10 minutes left but won 4-3. Scorers were Kyle Delves, 2, Steve Morgan and Aaron Holligan.
