MILLOM claimed a first Vigodny Cup in a decade as their youngsters came to the fore in victory over Windscale.

The St George’s Road side triumphed over their West Cumbrian opponents at Ulverston Road, Dalton.

Dalton CC did an excellent job of hosting the final with groundsman Jack Singleton ensuring the pitch defied the morning rain and produced a good game.

Teenager Billy Thompson claimed three wickets with his bowling and took three catches in the field, while fellow young gun Ethan Bickerdike also proved dangerous with the ball, taking two scalps of his own.

Windscale batted first and made a dreadful start, losing three early wickets, including regular run machine Dom Chambers, the first of Bickerdike’s victims for a duck.

From that point on, the young Millom attack refused to relinquish their grip on the game.

Although 30 wides were bowled, they still restricted Windscale to a total of 123 when they had them all out in the 37th over.

Thompson ended with figures of 3 for 25 and Bickerdike 2 for 11, while elder statesman Robert Thompson took 3 for 21.

Millom had a bad start in their reply, as they lost both openers early on.

But the experience of Tom Wilkinson, who made 62 not out, and Danny Mackie, 26, saw them home in the 39th over at 125 for 3.

North Lancs an Cumbria League president Robin Dunn presented the Vigodny Cup and medals, and the man-of-the-match award to Tom Wilkinson.

The league thanked Dalton, groundsman Singleton and the ladies for their catering.
